Terms & Conditions

By accepting this quote and paying the 30% deposit to secure your supply of building-grade retted hemp hurd that was locally grown and processed here in Tassie, you are
acknowledging that you have read and are agreeing to the following:

  • The 30% deposit on the estimated quantity secures your place in our production schedule and becomes non-refundable 6-months before the originally estimated delivery date you have provided X-Hemp.

  • We fully understand how complex all construction projects are in their own ways, and how stressful the process can be when ordering materials in advance of breaking ground.  Our founder, Andi built her first two hempcrete houses using hurd processed in our mill, and understands how tough the juggle can be!  One of us will be checking-in regularly in advance of your build commencing, to make sure this aspect of the hempcrete supply experience is as smooth as possible.

  • With our current bagging and pallet stacking system, X-Hemp loose-fills bags to a 10kg weight and loads each pallet with 28 bags.  The pallets are approximately 1800 high x 1200 wide x 1150 deep with an average max weight 325kg (this factors in the bags of hemp plus the weight of the pallet itself).

  • We have rounded up the number of bags you’re ordering to match that 28 bag per pallet quantity multiplied.  We will happily buy back any hurd leftover at the end of your build, if it has been kept dry (this is essential) and out of the direct sun (also important as UV rays affect the integrity of the bags).

  • X-Hemp will store your order at no cost up until the originally estimated date of delivery, which you need to confirm with us via email within a week of making your 30% deposit payment.  If delivery is not made to a weather-proof location within five (5) business days from the date advised, storage will be at your cost at a rate of $5 per pallet per week.  Any storage costs will be added to the final invoice which must be paid in full at least 48-hours prior to pick-up. Please note that X-Hemp does not make a profit from this on-charging of storage fees and this is paid to cover the warehouse cost.

  • While X-Hemp can recommend transport companies that other customers have used, the buyer must arrange their own freight. Pallets are collected from Longford Transport, 10 Park St, Longford TAS 7301.  At this time, pallets can not be safely stacked two-high, so your freight company will need to factor in a single layer of pallets per load.

  • On receipt of your delivery, you have three (3) business days to advise X-Hemp of any issues with the product e.g. dampness or visible mould or discolouration on the bags.  We can not replace bags that become wet after they have left our warehouse.

  • Our pallets are good quality and made locally by the awesome folks at Self Help Workplace, and can be re-used many times. We have a $50 per pallet fee which is FULLY REFUNDED to you if you arrange to return the pallets (undamaged) to our factory in Cressy, Tasmania.  We hate waste, and are always running short of pallets, so will work with you to arrange pick-up when we can.

  • X-Hemp processes several different varieties of low-THC cannabis in Tasmania, with some of these types being grown specifically for fibre, and others that are dual- purpose for seed production.  All varieties grow slightly differently from one another, and the same variety can appear quite different from paddock to paddock due to soil type and other environmental factors.  As a result, there may be significant variation in colour and particle size depending on the variety and growing conditions.

  • As we do not yet have capabilities to do colour grading, X-Hemp does not guarantee hurd being delivered to particular colour specifications.  Some hurd has a greenish tinge due to chlorophyll remaining in the stem, some is golden, others darker brown, and some closer to white.  If this is an element you want to control for an off-form (unrendered) wall, you or your installer will need to check to see what is going into each mix, and do a test to make sure you are satisfied with what has been supplied BEFORE adding it to the mixer.

  • While X-Hemp does supply hurd that is dust-free to the extent that there is no risk of wall collapse from the binder not adhering properly to each piece of hurd, because of the nature of the processor we use here in Tassie, there will be a small amount of bast fibre present in each bag of hurd.  While this is slightly higher than imported hurd from the Northern Hemisphere, where they have more sophisticated decortication machines that separate out each part of the stalk more effectively, dozens of homes and major commercial projects have already been built using X- Hemp hurd with some bast mixed in. We have received zero reports or complaints of impacts on any of the key performance characteristics of hempcrete as a result.  Anecdotally, we are hearing that many builders and experienced installers actually prefer this slightly more ‘bast- y’ blend for ease of mixing and tamping.

  • On receipt of the 30% deposit you will be sent a 20% discount on anything you’d like to buy from our online shop. We have a number of signed copies of Steve Allin’s Hemp Buildings - 50 International Case Studies if you or your installer are looking for both inspiration and useful information in advance of your own build.  You can buy this book along with other items like clothing, locally distilled hemp spirits and made-made paper using the discount code.

  • As someone who has read all the way to the bottom of this important information, congratulations!  If you shoot us a quick email to info@xhemp.au with the subject header or note saying “I’m a fully-informed champion” along with your best shipping address, and let us know if you prefer gin, vodka, rum or kombucha as a preferred tipple, we’ll send a little thank you gift to acknowledge your effort 🙂
