The Tasmanian Hemp Association has a robust FAQs section about all things hemp, and you can see that here.
If you’re interested in staying up-to-date on all things hemp, please sign up for the free eNews produced by the THA and consider becoming a Supporter Member of the association.
The THA is the reason we have local processing in Tasmania, and is the peak industry body lobbying hard for changes to our outdated legislation. Our founder Andi Lucas currently serves as president and X-Hemp are proud Corporate Members of the THA.
By becoming a member, you will support that critical industry building work, and will also enjoy discounts on products and services offered by THA Corporate Members.
These savings include a 10% discount on any courses offered by Australian Hemp Masonry Company and free entry to tours hosted at X-Hemp.
If you're able to attend the association's annual Community Education Day - a fully catered and licensed held on the first Saturday of March each year - you will have an opportunity to see fully mature hemp plants, tour the factory, and speak to our Founder Andi, other X-Hemp team members and other key industry stakeholders in person.
If you are a teacher or student, please reach out directly to the THA via email to enquire about the annual Student Education Day that happens on the Friday prior to the CED each year.

If you're interested in learning more about hempcrete through further education or hands-on training, we strongly suggest enrolling in either or both the theory and practical workshops run by our key partners at the Australian Hemp Masonry Company.
We host several of these hands-on sessions at X-Hemp HQ every year. The next practical course is happening on Saturday 9th November 2024 and you can find the full schedule here.
If online theory or a full day of hands-on learning is not right for you, we invite you to join us for one of the four Hemp Happy Hour & Factory Tours we run between 3pm-4:30pm at the conclusion of each of the AHMC practical training days.
So if you're interested in seeing our operation, please RSVP via email to attend that quick 90-minute event. Tours are happening on the dates below and the cost is $20 per person (free for XH shareholders and THA members).

WEBSITE STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION
We're still very much in start-up mode and working on getting our systems and processes set up and website built out, so please bear with us!
Right now we are selling four types of processed hemp direct-to-customers from our factory at Cressy, and it is for pick-up only (you can find our opening hours here).
MULCH: the whole stalk of the plant which has been cut, field retted*, baled, aged and then broken down into bags.
BAST: the outside sheath of the hemp stalk after it has gone through our hammer mill (similar material to coir).
FINES: the small particulate matter left over from processing bast and hurd (similar to the consistency of sawdust)
DUST: even smaller particles of hemp material (similar consistency to milled flour).
HURD: the woody core of the plant (similar material to finely chopped wood chips)
** PREMIUM BUILDING GRADE PRODUCT / ON BACK-ORDER **
The mulch product can be used in the same way as other premium mulch products like pea straw or sugar cane. The other three outputs have good uses in gardens as soil ameliorants** and growing substrates.
We know customers are using our processed hemp in chook and other animal pens, for biochar, living soils or worm farms. Folks are constantly coming up with new uses so we'll continue adding to this list as we learn more.
Please note that the processed hemp products for sale are excluding hurd - the woody core of the plant - as this is sold as a premium building material and is currently on backorder.
* field retted: field retting is the oldest and most commonly used retting process used to separate fibres from the respective plants. The harvested hemp stalks are cut and raked in the paddocks, where the combined action of bacteria, sun, air, and dew produces fermentation, dissolving much of the stem material surrounding the fibre bundles.** soil ameliorants are inorganic and organic chemical soil conditioning products applied to enhance the quality of soil and therefore improve plant health, growth and revegetation. Soil amelioration is a term used to describe an improvement in soil structure through mechanical inputs with the primary aim of improving air and water balance within the soil.

Keen to learn what it is like to live in a hempcrete home?
An opportunity exists for those able to travel to Bruny Island off the south-east coast of Tasmania where X-Hemp founder Andi Lucas built the first two structures using Tasmanian grown-and-processed hemp.
These luxury accommodation units are available for short-stay rentals, and are a shaowcase for all things hemp, with linens, food, bathroom products, mulch and the mini-bar all being made from this amazing crop.
All details for Sativa House can be found here and for Indica House here (note that the key difference between these otherwise identical units is the deep soaking bath in Indica House).

Our locally grown hemp mulch is a:
Natural, renewable, local alternative to traditional mulches and weed mats
Less prone to being windblown, and hemp mulch looks like bedding
Hemp binds and is long lasting compared to other products like pea straw, and the strong bast fibres suppress weed growth
Hemp mulch discourages pesky snails and slugs, and earthworms love it (we all know how valuable those worms are to the garden)
Hemp straw is great for chook pens and animal stalls (people also love using our bast fibre and hemp fines for this purpose and we have plenty of these products available too)
Layering hemp mulch will prevent evaporative water loss and limits frost damage
Our processed hemp mulch is easy to spread and absorbs more than four times its weight in moisture
Hemp straw is favourable to microorganisms and retains moisture much longer than most mulching materials
Our mulch is pH neutral, fully biodegradable and adds humus to soils
